Aiming high
Who is your personal role model?
Don't have one. I suppose the closest I ever came was Serrin, the thief next door who taught me when I was little, but by the time I was ten I was already better than him. Give him credit though--he was never anything but proud of me, and he and Doty were the closest thing I had to family besides my mum. I called them uncle and aunt for years, and the way they loved each other was a lovely thing to see. Little wizened Serrin and big laughing cuddly Doty: they looked a mismatched pair but they were soulmates. When Serrin died on a job, Doty just took to her bed, turned her face to the wall, and joined him a week later. I was very upset at the time--they were all I had at that stage, 16 years old and an orphan by then, and I suppose I thought I'd matter enough for her to live for. But looking back, the affection they felt for me was like a meteor compared to the vast planet of their love.
Something to aim for, that.
