From [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse: Write about the colour blue.

I remember the first time I got out of the dome. I was about 7 and running away from some bullies when I picked my way through one door too many. The colours out there were so vibrant after the dullness of inside, they hurt my eyes. Greens so vivid they burned, and that sky overhead… a blue so deep and clear you could fall forever into it. You might think I'd've been scared, but it just looked like another, much vaster, dome overhead. It might've been different if I'd been older, but I was young enough to see the Outside as new, exciting, and a hell of a lot safer than Inside given the lack of people.

I didn't much care for bad weather though, so to me Blue meant the world was saying, "Come on out, friend". I used to lie down on the grass in summer and look up at the hot turquoise sky through the branches of a tree and listen to the birds and the insects. In winter, when the blue was icy, cool and distant, I'd crunch through the silent whiteness like an explorer till my fingers started to go numb, then I'd go back Inside full of energy and bounce.

I don't know why people think 'blue' means sad. Not to me.
